New York City Engagement Shoot | Richard Rogers Theater | Tanya & Wilson

I met Tanya & Wilson at the Richard Rogers Theater in New York City on Saturday for their engagement shoot. Wilson is a percussionist for the current show at that theater, "In the Heights", and Tanya is a professional dancer. The theater kindly let us use their space in the morning before the matinee show - thank you Mr. Theater. It was an amazing experience for me because not only are Tanya & Wilson a truly sweet and beautiful couple, but I also got my own private tour of a Broadway theater. It's a lot smaller backstage than I thought it would be! I had a great time and thanks so much to my wonderful and talented assistant, Hayley Schlesinger.

Here's the story of how they met: We officially met June 9th, 2007 in Louisville,KY. Although we had worked together before and never were formally introduced, Louisville was were we had our first real conversation. I was a dancer on the National tour of The Lion King and Wilson was filling in for one of the percussionists while he was on his honeymoon ( I should mention that I actually caught the bouquet at his wedding)!  Anyway, we were introduced by a mutual friend at our opening night party in Louisville. It was at a really trendy sushi bar downtown and the place was packed with people. I introduced myself to him and we started talking. One thing led to another and the entire place was empty and we didn't even notice. We had been talking for hours and closed down the place! I think that we can both say that it was love at first sight.

And the story of how they got engaged: Our engagement took place June 11th, 2008 in Dusseldorf,Germany. I was on the European tour of West Side Story for over a month and Wilson was coming to visit for the first time. After a long day of travel, we decided to have a low key night. At around 3AM, he woke up complaining of the heat and how we should open a window. I agreed, and after we managed to pry it open, we went back to sleep. A few minutes later I hear Wilson professing his love to me in the pitch dark. Next thing I know, he leans over the bed and grabs a little blue velvet box. HE asked... I screamed... and of course said YES! That weekend he took me to Amsterdam to celebrate!
